Choose Your Backlit Banner Stand by Width
Width is the decision that matters most, and it is the one people get wrong. Every stand on this page is a banner — a tall, narrow panel between roughly 2.5 and 5 ft wide. Height is where they vary less: most stand 6 to 8 ft tall, which is eye level plus enough headroom to read over a crowd. Start from the floor space you are filling, not from the graphic you already have; the print gets made to fit the frame.
| Width |
Where it works |
| 2.5 – 3 ft wide |
Registration desks, hallway and lobby placement, beside a counter, retail entrances. The backlit tower format — narrow footprint, full height. Also the size that fits in a corner without eating floor space you are paying for. |
| 4 ft wide |
The workhorse size for a 10x10 booth. Anchors one side of the booth or flanks a monitor without crowding the space. Two of them flanking a counter is a common and effective layout. |
| 5 ft wide |
The widest true banner format. Reads as a feature panel rather than a sign — good behind a demo station, or as the one lit element in an otherwise unlit booth. |
| Wider than 5 ft |
Past 5 ft you are building a wall, not placing a banner, and the hardware changes with it. Start at Backlit Trade Show Displays for 8 ft and 10 ft lit back walls, the WaveLight backlit displays for full booth kits, or the Vector Light Boxes for large-format and square lightboxes. |
Why an LED Lightbox Banner Stand Outperforms a Printed Banner
Trade show halls are lit for walking, not for reading graphics. Overhead lighting is uneven, aisle carpet swallows it, and a neighbor's tall structure can put your banner in shadow for the whole show. An illuminated display stand carries its own light source, so the graphic looks the same at 8 a.m. on setup day as it does at 4 p.m. on the last day of the show.

Even, edge-to-edge light. LED arrays run the perimeter of the frame and wash the fabric from behind — no hot spots, no dark corners, no visible bulbs through the print.
|
|
One standard outlet. These run on ordinary 110V booth power. You do not need a dedicated circuit or a lighting rental from the show contractor.
|
|
Tool-free assembly. Push-fit aluminum extrusion, then zip the silicone-edge graphic into the channel. Two people, a few minutes, no ladder for the smaller widths.
|
|
Reusable hardware, swappable graphic. The frame is the investment. When the message changes, you order a replacement print and keep everything else.
|
|
Single or double sided. Double-sided lightboxes work an aisle from both directions, which matters in a corner or peninsula booth.

Backlit Banner Stand or Backlit Display Wall?
The honest split is about 5 ft wide. A backlit banner stand is one lit panel standing on its own feet — you move it, you re-aim it, you take it to a smaller show next month, and one person can carry the case. A backlit display is a booth structure: wide enough to be the back wall, usually connected to counters and accessories, engineered as part of a booth rather than as a standalone piece.
A useful test: if you are asking "where do I put it," you want a banner stand. If you are asking "what does my booth look like," you want a display. Buying a display when a banner would do means paying for structure you will carry to every show and only use at some of them — and buying a banner when you needed a wall leaves a 10 ft back wall with a 4 ft graphic floating in the middle of it.
Where to go for the wall version: Backlit Trade Show Displays is the full category. Within it, the WaveLight backlit displays cover 8 ft through 20 ft booth kits, the Vector Light Boxes cover large-format rectangles and squares including wall-mounted units, and Backlit HopUp Displays are the collapsible pop-up version for 8 ft and 10 ft spans. If you want lit signage overhead instead of on the floor, see Backlit Hanging Displays.

Artwork and Print
Backlit graphics are printed on a translucent fabric and dye-sublimated so the color holds when light passes through it. That changes how you should design: a file built for a front-lit banner usually prints too dark once it is lit from behind, and thin reversed-out type can bloom. Send us your art and we will proof it against the frame size before anything goes to press — and if you do not have print-ready files, our design team can build them. Every order is proofed with a real person on it before it prints.
Backlit Banner Stand FAQs
How much power does a backlit banner stand need?
One standard 110V outlet runs the stand. LED arrays draw far less than the halogen and fluorescent fixtures they replaced, so a single booth power drop will typically carry a lightbox plus a monitor. Check the spec tab on the model you are considering for its exact wattage, and if you are running several units off one drop, call us and we will add it up with you before you order show power.
Can I use my existing retractable banner graphic in a backlit stand?
No. A retractable banner print is opaque and hemmed for a roller cassette; a backlit stand needs a translucent fabric print with a silicone edge strip sewn on so it can zip into the frame channel. The artwork file can be reused — the print itself has to be new.
How long does one take to set up?
Minutes, not hours, and no tools. The frame pushes together, the feet lock on, the graphic zips into the channel, and you plug it in. The 2.5 and 3 ft widths are a one-person job; on the taller 8 ft panels, plan on two people to lift the assembled frame upright.
Are they single or double sided?
Both are available depending on the model. Double-sided costs more because it is two prints and a deeper frame, and it earns that back in a corner, peninsula or island booth where traffic comes from two directions. Against a back wall, single-sided is the right call.
Can I use a backlit banner stand outdoors?
These are built for indoor use — the electronics are not weather-rated and the footprint is not weighted for wind. For outdoor events see Outdoor Banner Stands, which use water-fillable or weighted bases.
What is the difference between a backlit banner stand and a light box?
Nothing structural — they are the same technology. "Light box" usually describes the wider and square formats, and wall-mounted units; "backlit banner stand" describes the tall narrow freestanding ones on this page. If you are shopping the larger sizes, the Vector Light Boxes category covers them.
Not sure which width you need?
Tell us your booth size and where the stand is going and we will tell you what fits — including when a cheaper stand is the right answer.
